News Detail

  • Deadline for Filing I-T Returns Extended to Aug 5

    Publish Date : 01 Aug 2017

You can now file your income tax returns till Saturday this week. The Central Board of Direct Taxes has extended the deadline for filing returns till August 5. “In order to facilitate the e-filing of returns, it is also decided to give extension of five days... The return can be filed up to August 5, 2017,“ a CBDT statement said on Monday. CBDT has said it would be suffici ent, as of now, to quote Aadhaar or acknowledgement number for having applied for Aadhaar in e-filing and the actual linking of PAN with Aadhaar can be done subsequently, but any time before August 31. However, the returns will not be processed without the linkage of Aadhaar with PAN, it said.

Taxpayers had been complaining about the site not working for the last two days. CBDT blamed it on the last minute rush. “There are some complaints that taxpayers are not being able to log on to the e-filing website of income tax department or not being able to link Aadhaar with PAN because of different names reflected in PAN and Aadhaar database. While technical snags have been removed already, the main reason for failure to log in is because of last minute rush and panic. Those who have already logged in want to continue (that way) for fear of losing it (the connection),“ the statement said. The decision to extend the Monday deadline was taken after a meeting of the revenue department and CBDT. Till Sunday, the department had maintained there would be no extension.  - www.economics-times.com[01-08-2017]
